Obverse description Frontal effigy of Emperor Otto IV enthroned in majesty, shown full-length facing, robed in imperial vestments with beaded ornamental detailing. The emperor holds a sword upright in his right hand and a ferula (sceptre) in his left, symbols of temporal and ecclesiastical authority. The figure is rendered in the flat, stylised Romanesque hammered die-cut manner typical of early 13th-century German pfennigs. The Latin legend OTTO REX runs around the periphery within a beaded border.
