| Obverse description | Central field depicts an ornate cross or foliate design composed of interlocking curved and angular elements, surrounded by multiple pellets distributed across the field in a decorative arrangement. The design exhibits the characteristic Romanesque artistic style of 12th-century Austrian bracteate-influenced pfennig coinage. The entire motif is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, itself bordered by a second outer beaded ring that follows the irregular flan edge. The relief is bold and slightly crude, consistent with hammered production of the period. No legible inscription is present on this face. |

Otakar IV ruled Styria through a period of persistent conflict with the Babenberg Dukes of Austria, a rivalry that shaped the political geography of the eastern Alpine region for generations. He died in 1192 without a male heir, and the Georgenberg Pact — concluded that same year — transferred Styria to the Babenbergs upon his death, effectively ending the Traungau-Otakar dynasty. This denier was struck somewhere within that reign window, likely at Fischau, which served as a minting site during Otakar's tenure. The Georgenberg agreement is one of the earliest surviving inheritance treaties in the German-speaking lands.
