| Obverse description | Central field features a large cross pattée enclosed within a raised inner circle, surrounded by four smaller crosses pattées arranged symmetrically in the outer field. The design is executed in the crude, bold relief typical of Venetian hammered billon coinage of the late 12th century. The legend AVR DVX, referring to the doge, runs around the periphery separated by pellets, preceded by a cross. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with weak strike areas characteristic of hand-hammered production. |
