| Obverse description | Crude hammered imitation of an Anglo-Saxon penny type, featuring a stylized bust facing right in the center of the field, rendered in a debased Scandinavian die-cutting style derived from the Long Cross type of Æthelred II. The effigy is crudely delineated with a scepter or hand visible before the face, characteristic of Swedish Viking-age imitative coinage. A partial circular legend surrounds the bust, reading EDELRED REX ANCLO, a corrupted rendering of the English royal titulature. The overall execution reflects the limited engraving tradition of early Swedish minting under Olof Skötkonung. |
