Reverse description Central field displays a large capital letter A enclosed within a raised inner circle, rendered in the simplified monogram style characteristic of feudal French deniers of the early 11th century. The surrounding legend in debased Latin reads EXOLDVN CATRO, introduced by a cross, referencing the castle of Issoudun as the issuing authority. The lettering is bold and irregularly spaced around the inner circle, consistent with the crude workmanship typical of provincial hammered billon coinage of the period. The flan is irregular with a slightly curved surface and uneven strike.
