Obverse description Central cross pattée set within a beaded inner circle, with the four quadrants of the field flanked by letters forming the lord's name and title. The surrounding legend, rendered in crude Romanesque letterforms characteristic of early 11th-century feudal coinage, reads outward from the inner circle toward the coin's irregular flan edge. The overall engraving style is bold but roughly executed, typical of provincial hammered silver coinage of the period. Two varieties are known, distinguished by whether the obverse legend commences at the bottom or at the top of the die.
