| Obverse description | A plain cross with slightly splayed arms occupies the central field, enclosed within a raised beaded inner circle. Surrounding this circle, the royal legend runs in a continuous band between the inner beading and the irregularly struck outer edge of the flan. The lettering is rendered in bold Carolingian majuscules typical of late 9th- to early 10th-century Frankish coinage. The overall style is consistent with the Strasbourg mint production under Louis the Child. |
