Reverse description Central field displays a plain cross pattée within a prominent inner beaded circle, a standard Carolingian reverse type denoting Christian authority. The cross divides the inner field into four equal quarters, each left plain. The surrounding peripheral legend reads ✠ SCI PETRI MONETA in capital Latin letters, identifying this as the coinage of Saint Peter, referring to the Abbey of Saint Peter at Corbie. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-hammered production of the late 9th century.
