Reverse description A plain cross with slightly splayed arms occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle (grenetis). The civic mint legend LVCDVNI CIVIS, identifying the Lyon mint, is arranged in Latin characters around the periphery, introduced by a decorative star or annulet. The overall type follows the standard Carolingian denier format as struck at the Lyon mint during this period.
