Reverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the monogram or abbreviated mint name LVDO is displayed on two lines in the central field, referencing the name of Louis and the mint authority. The surrounding annular legend reads +TOLOSA CIVI, identifying the mint city of Toulouse. The lettering is executed in characteristic Carolingian majuscule script, bold and slightly irregular in spacing, consistent with hand-struck hammered coinage of the period. The flan is irregular in outline, with the legend occasionally running off the edge.
