Reverse description The reverse presents a plain, open field with the mint inscription arranged in two horizontal lines across the centre: REMIS above and CIVIS below, identifying this as a product of the City of Reims. The legends are rendered in large, bold Carolingian capital letters typical of the period. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded outer border, consistent with the standard Carolingian denier reverse format. The flan is slightly irregular and the strike is well-centred, with good relief on the lettering.
