Obverse description Draped and laureate bust of Emperor Louis I (the Pious) facing right, rendered in the late Carolingian imperial portrait tradition. The effigy displays a stylized profile with visible drapery at the shoulder, occupying the central field. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading HLVDOVVICVS IMP AVC, identifying the ruler as Louis, Emperor Augustus. The flan is irregular, typical of hand-struck hammered silver coinage of the early 9th century.
