Reverse description The mint name DORESTATUS, identifying the Carolingian emporium of Dorestad, is displayed across the field in three horizontal lines reading DOR / ES·TA / TVS, with a small cross or annulet above the first line. The large, boldly rendered capital letters fill nearly the entire flan, enclosed by an outer beaded border consistent with Carolingian denier fabric of the early ninth century.
