Obverse description Facing bust of Duke Lothair of Supplinburg rendered in a schematic Romanesque style, holding a spear in the right hand and a scepter in the left. The effigy is enclosed within a beaded or linear inner circle. The surrounding field bears the Latin legend reading the duke's title. The overall die-work is characteristic of early 12th-century Saxon bracteate-related coinage, with bold but stylized portraiture typical of the period.
