Obverse description Central field features a stylized Carolingian monogram composed of interlaced letters, enclosed within a plain inner circle or ring. The surrounding area is decorated with a beaded or dotted border, with triangular pellet ornaments distributed around the inner circle. The circumferential legend reads LOTARVS REX, identifying the issuer as King Lothair. The overall style is characteristic of late Carolingian hammered silver coinage, with somewhat irregular striking typical of the period.
