Obverse description A plain cross with slightly splayed arms occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The imperial legend HLOHARIVS IMP encircles the cross in Latin capitals, reading around the outer margin of the flan. A small cross precedes the emperor's name at the top of the legend. The strike is characteristic of Carolingian hammered coinage, with the design elements evenly distributed across the irregularly shaped flan.
