| Obverse description | Frontal bust of the archbishop in stylized Romanesque rendering, wearing ecclesiastical vestments and a mitre-like headdress. The figure holds a crozier to the right and raises the left hand in a gesture of benediction. The facial features are schematically rendered with pellet eyes, characteristic of early 12th-century German episcopal coinage. The flan is irregular with slightly ragged edges, as typical of hammered bracteate-related issues of the period. |

Konrad I von Abensberg served as Archbishop of Salzburg during one of the most destabilizing conflicts in medieval German ecclesiastical politics — the Investiture Controversy's long aftermath, including the renewed tensions between imperial and papal authority under Henry V and Lothair III. Salzburg's archbishops held temporal as well as spiritual jurisdiction over substantial Alpine territories, and coinage was an explicit exercise of that comital right.
The CNA type A 29 is among the thinner, more lightly struck issues associated with the Salzburg mint in this period, a characteristic of Alpine deniers generally rather than a production fault specific to this emission.
