Reverse description Plain cross pattée with broad arms extending to the inner beaded circle, dividing the field into four equal quarters, each left plain. A circular Latin legend runs between the inner beaded circle and the outer rim, recording John III's comital title as Count of Richmond. The cross design follows the standard type of Breton feudal deniers of the period, with a beaded inner circle clearly separating the central motif from the surrounding legend. The flan is slightly irregular, consistent with hammered production at the Nantes mint.
