| Obverse description | A plain cross with splayed arms occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The cross divides the field into four quadrants. A circular legend in uncial Latin letters surrounds the beaded border, reading the name and title of John of Chalon. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hammered medieval coinage of the period. |
