| Obverse description | Bust of Bishop James of Lorraine facing left, depicted in episcopal vestments with a mitre upon his head and a crozier held to one side; the effigy is rendered in a bold, somewhat archaic Romanesque style characteristic of mid-13th-century Lorraine coinage. The bishop's face is shown in profile with stylized beaded decoration at the mitre. Surrounding the central figure is a beaded inner border, with fragmentary Latin legend distributed around the field. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, as typical of hammered medieval deniers of this period. |

| Reverse description | Central plain cross pattée occupying the majority of the field, with small decorative elements — including stars and annulets — placed in the angles between the cross arms, a motif common to episcopal deniers of the Lorraine region. Above the cross, a stylized letter or symbol is visible at the top of the field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which the reverse legend is distributed around the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan. The overall execution is characteristic of mid-13th-century hammered silver coinage from the Metz mint. |
