Obverse description A short cross with a pellet in each angle occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding circular legend, rendered in Latin capitals, reads OTTO IMP AVGVS, identifying the issuing authority as Emperor Otto in the Carolingian imperial tradition. The strike is characteristic of late tenth-century hammered silver coinage, with an irregular flan and variable relief. The beaded border frames the design and separates the cross motif from the peripheral inscription.
