Obverse description Stylized dauphin (dolphin) facing left in profile, occupying the central field, with an annulet positioned above the figure. The design is rendered in the crude but characteristic medieval feudal style typical of Dauphiné ecclesiastical coinage. The surrounding circular legend reads H . DALPH`S VIEN, identifying the issuer as Humbert, Dauphin of Viennois. The coin exhibits the irregular flan and variable striking pressure characteristic of hammered medieval billon deniers.

Reverse description A cross pattée, with flared arms of roughly equal length, dividing the reverse field into four quarters. The cross is contained within an inner beaded or linear circle, beyond which the Latin legend is distributed around the periphery. The legend EPS GRO NOP OL refers to Episcopus Gratianopolitanus (Bishop of Grenoble), affirming the ecclesiastical authority of the issuer. The overall execution is bold but irregular, consistent with the hand-struck coinage of the Bishopric of Grenoble in the late thirteenth century.
