Reverse description Central field bears the mint name PAPIA (Pavia) arranged across the field in two lines, enclosed within a beaded inner border, identifying the issuing mint of the Imperial city of Pavia. The surrounding legend proclaims the emperor's title. The overall design follows the standard Pavese denier type of the Salian period, with bold, deeply struck lettering typical of hammered silver coinage of the late 11th to early 12th century.
