Obverse description Hammered billon denier of irregular flan struck at Pavia. The obverse field displays a bold monogram of the emperor's name — the letters H, E, N, and R arranged in a cruciform interlocking pattern, characteristic of the Salian dynasty imperial coinage of the Pavia mint. The design occupies the full field in the style of Carolingian and Ottonian monogram deniers. A circular beaded or cable border frames the design, with the Latin legend running along the periphery reading +AVGUSTVS CE H RIG N, invoking the imperial title of Henry.
