Additional information

Henry II was crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pope Benedict VIII in February 1014, and the Dortmund mint — one of the older imperial minting sites in Westphalia — struck deniers under his authority throughout the imperial period. Henry was the last ruler of the Ottonian dynasty; he died without an heir in 1024, ending the line entirely.

Kluge's Kar#70-71 distinguishes minor die variants within this Dortmund emission, a detail worth checking against the specific piece in hand.
