Reverse description A plain cross occupies the centre of the reverse, its arms extending toward a beaded inner circle. The quadrants formed by the cross are decorated alternately: a crescent ornament appears in the first and fourth quarters, while a fleur-de-lis occupies the second and third quarters. The circular legend REMIS CIVITAS, introduced by a small cross, runs along the outer border within a beaded circle. The design reflects the civic and ecclesiastical pride of the see of Reims, executed in the characteristic hammered style of 13th-century French feudal coinage.
