Obverse description Central field displays a plain cross dividing the coin into four quarters, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads + HEINRICVS REX, identifying King Henry I, rendered in crude but legible Carolingian capitals. An outer border of radiating triangular points frames the entire design, typical of the Ottonian hammered denier tradition. The die work is characteristic of early tenth-century East Frankish coinage, with irregular flan preparation and uneven strike pressure producing slight distortion.
