| Obverse description | Crude facing bust of Duke Henry I of Brabant rendered in the Romanesque style, with a roughly schematic head and shoulders occupying the central field. The portrait is executed in low relief with bold, simplified facial features characteristic of hammered medieval coinage. A circular legend in uncial Latin surrounds the effigy, reading the duke's name and title. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, consistent with hand-struck silver deniers of the late 12th to early 13th century. |
