Additional information

Henri I of France held the county of Mâcon from 1032 following the death of his mother Constance of Arles, making this issue one of the earliest coinages struck in his name from a territory he controlled directly as king rather than through a vassal. The châtel type reflects the Carolingian denier tradition still dominant in Burgundian minting practice at mid-century.
