Obverse description Central field features a plain cross enclosed within a beaded inner circle, a typical Carolingian-derived design element widespread in French feudal coinage. The cross is bold and evenly formed, with each arm extending to the inner circle. Surrounding the beaded circle, the outer legend reads ЄRVIS CONS in Latin characters, denoting Count Harvey (Hervé de Donzy), separated by a cross pattée at the start of the inscription. The overall style is characteristic of early 13th-century French feudal billon deniers, struck by hand with irregular flan edges.
