Obverse description Frontal bust of Archbishop Hartwig wearing a mitre and episcopal vestments, depicted in a hieratic, Romanesque style typical of late 11th-century German ecclesiastical coinage. The figure is shown facing forward with hands slightly extended, set within a beaded or stylized wreath border. The surrounding legend reads + HARTVICVS ARCHIEP, identifying the issuing prelate. The relief is bold yet somewhat crude, characteristic of hammered bracteate-influenced deniers of the Saxony region.
