Reverse description A bold cross dominates the center of the reverse, rendered in an architectural or floriated style typical of late 12th-century German episcopal bracteate-influenced deniers. The cross divides the field into quadrants, with a curved arch or lunette framing the upper portion of the design. A partial circular legend in Latin characters surrounds the cross, though the letters are worn and partially illegible on many specimens. The overall die style reflects the Romanesque hammered coinage of the Würzburg mint under Bishop Gottfried I of Spitzenberg.
