Obverse description Bearded bust of Duke Godfrey III facing left, depicted in a crude, stylised medieval manner characteristic of Brabantine hammered coinage. A vertical banner or staff is held upright before the figure, partially overlapping the face. The surrounding legend reads GODEFRID in Latin characters, referencing Duke Godfrey (Godefroid) of Brabant. The flan is irregular and the relief is bold but worn in keeping with the hand-struck technique of the period.
