Obverse description Central field occupied by a monogram of GERVASI, composed of interlaced letters in the Carolingian monogram tradition, set within a plain inner circle. The monogram is boldly rendered in high relief typical of 11th-century French episcopal coinage. A circular legend surrounds the inner circle, reading GERVASI ARCHIPRAEƧVLIS, identifying Archbishop Gervais of Reims. The flan is irregular, as is characteristic of hammered billon deniers of this period.

Reverse description Central field features a plain cross pattée with a fleur-de-lis ornament in one angle and a pellet in the diagonally opposite angle, all contained within a beaded or plain inner circle. The cross divides the inner field into four quadrants with the decorative elements enhancing the canonical denier design. The surrounding circular legend reads REMENSIS NUMMUS, denoting the coinage authority of Reims. The edge of the flan is characteristically irregular due to the hand-hammered striking technique.
