Reverse description Central field bearing a cross pattée, with a small crowned head appearing above the cross in the upper quarter, a device associated with the episcopal authority of the Bishop of Metz. The legend in uncial Latin characters is distributed around the cross in the surrounding field. The flan shows characteristic irregular edges and surface porosity typical of hammered medieval silver deniers. The reverse design reflects the standard iconographic conventions of Lotharingian episcopal coinage of the late 13th century.
