Reverse description Two confronted birds, one to each side of a central three-part staff or column surmounted by a trefoil or fleur-de-lis finial, the whole composition resting above a stepped pediment or arcade base. The birds are rendered in a stylized heraldic manner typical of 13th-century German civic coinage, their wings folded and bodies facing inward toward the central device. The design fills the irregular flan, with no surrounding legend, the field plain.
