Obverse description Frontal bust of Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa, crowned with a jewelled crown, wearing scale-patterned imperial regalia. The emperor holds a sceptre in his right hand, depicted in a schematic Romanesque style characteristic of 12th-century imperial coinage. Partial Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading FREDERI IMPR, identifying the ruler as Frederick, Emperor. The overall execution reflects the flat, stylised relief typical of hammered Rhenish deniers of this period.
