Obverse description A large central cross divides the field into four quadrants, each containing one letter of the royal name — N, E, R arranged around the intersection, separated by small crosses at the terminals. The letters are rendered in a bold, archaic Romanesque style characteristic of early medieval Hungarian hammered coinage. A beaded inner border frames the design, with a further dentilated outer rim. The composition reflects the monogram-cross type common to the Árpád dynasty deniers of the late 12th and early 13th centuries.
