Reverse description The reverse displays a stylized facing feline head, most likely a lion passant or lion's face in the Déols heraldic tradition, rendered in bold relief within a beaded inner circle. The mane is depicted with sweeping curved lines radiating from the central visage, and a small ornamental element appears below the chin. The surrounding legend reads MELIANVS, referring to Meillant, the lordship issuing the coin. The flan is irregular and the strike uneven, characteristic of mid-thirteenth-century feudal hammered coinage.
