| Obverse description | Two crossed or side-by-side papal keys depicted in the central field, the traditional emblem of the Holy See. The keys are rendered in a simplified, low-relief style characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading CLEMENS P P VII, identifying the issuing pope. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hand-struck medieval ecclesiastical issues. The overall style is consistent with Comtat Venaissin deniers of the early sixteenth century. |
