Reverse description Central field features a plain Greek cross with slightly expanded arms set within a beaded inner circle, the arms extending nearly to the border. The cross divides the inner field into four equal quadrants, each left plain. The outer legend, separated from the inner circle by a flat border, reads VALENCIAS ROT identifying the Valenciennes mint with its harbour designation. The lettering is rendered in angular Carolingian capitals, and the flan edge is characteristically uneven due to hand-hammered production.
