| Obverse description | The central field features the Carolingian royal monogram of Charles II (Karolus), composed of interlaced letters in high relief within an inner beaded circle. The monogram is rendered in the characteristic Carolingian style, with the letters C, A, R, L, and V intertwined to form a complex cipher. A circular Latin legend surrounds the beaded border, reading from a cross pattée, and the entire design is executed in the hammered style typical of ninth-century Carolingian silver coinage. |
