| Reverse description | A plain Latin cross with equal arms occupies the central field, contained within an inner beaded circle. The cross arms extend nearly to the inner border, with a small pellet at the foot. The surrounding circular legend, introduced by a cross pattée, references the palace mint at Compiègne, with the letters NP and ND presented as tied ligatures. The reverse is struck on an irregular flan consistent with the hammered technique of Carolingian royal deniers issued under the Edict of Pîtres (864). |
