Obverse description Central cross pattée with a pellet in each of the four angles, all contained within a beaded inner circle. The cross and pellets are boldly rendered in high relief typical of Carolingian hammered coinage. Surrounding the beaded circle, a Latin legend in large Carolingian majuscule letters occupies the field, reading clockwise from a cross pommée stop. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of hand-struck ninth-century silver deniers.
