The cross arms extend nearly to the inner beaded border, dividing the central field into four equal quadrants. A circular Latin mint legend surrounds the beaded border, identifying the mint of Chièvres. The execution is typical of Carolingian hammered coinage, with slightly uneven strike and irregular flan shape characteristic of ninth-century provincial monetary production. |
