Reverse description Central field displays a plain Latin cross with equal arms in high relief, contained within a beaded inner circle. The cross arms extend nearly to the inner beaded border, filling the central field in a bold, austere manner typical of Carolingian imperial coinage. A Latin legend reading CΛVNONIS CIVS (Civitas Cabilonensis — City of Chalon) surrounds the beaded circle, introduced by a cross pattée. The coin's hammered fabric gives the flan an irregular, slightly uneven outline.
