Reverse description Central field displays a plain Greek cross with equal arms, struck in bold relief within a beaded inner circle, a motif introduced with Charlemagne's monetary reform of 793-794. The cross divides the inner field into four quadrants, each left plain. A peripheral Latin legend encircles the beaded border, reading ✠ EX METALLO NOVO, referring to the new coinage issued under the reformed standard. The flan exhibits the characteristic irregularity of hammered silver production, with slight curvature and uneven edges typical of Carolingian workshop output.
