Reverse description Two-line inscription in the field divided by a horizontal bar, reading the mint name METILO (Melle) in abbreviated form, arranged above and below the central dividing line. The lettering is rendered in bold, somewhat crude capitals consistent with the output of the Melle mint during the early Carolingian period. The overall layout reflects the standard epigraphic denier type associated with Charlemagne's pre-reform coinage. The flan edges are irregular, with slight scalloping visible around the rim.
