Reverse description The reverse features the mint abbreviation ARE, denoting the Arles mint, arranged in bold capital letters across the central field and surmounted by a horizontal bar. The three letters are crudely but distinctly struck in the hammered Carolingian style, occupying nearly the full diameter of the flan. The irregular, roughly circular flan shows characteristic clipping and flan preparation marks typical of early medieval silver coinage. No additional decorative elements or border devices are present, in keeping with the austere typology of Carloman I's monetary issues.
