Reverse description The reverse of this hammered bracteate-style denier mirrors or complements the obverse design, as is typical for thin medieval deniers of this period from the Bishopric of Basel, where the reverse impression is largely a weak incuse counter-image of the obverse due to the hammered striking technique on an irregular flan. The flan edges are uneven and show the characteristic rough finish of hand-struck episcopal coinage. No distinct reverse legend or iconographic program independent of the obverse strike can be distinguished.
